2007
marked the 50th Anniversary of the Village of
Streamwood's incorporation with the State of Illinois
– a
milestone that reflects both pride in our past accomplishments
and vision for the future of our dynamic community.
Originally a bedroom community meeting the housing needs of
returning war veterans, Streamwood incorporated with 200 homes
and 2,500 people. The community had no parks and the
only school serving the area was a country school built in
1954 to replace the old one-room schoolhouse that had served
the farming community for nearly 100 years.
Over the years, Streamwood's population has grown to
over
39,000. Construction of new homes has brought new
families to our area. The 600 commercial and industrial
businesses that occupy property within our corporate limits
provide our citizens with an opportunity to work in the
community where they reside. Its close proximity to
major roadways, airports and train stations, along with a wide
range of regional shopping centers and abundant recreational
facilities, make Streamwood an ideal location to live, work
and play.
Streamwood is a full service community that boasts being pro-business and pro-development. Our agenda for balanced growth has resulted in a streamlined plan approval process and creative incentive packages for development. Details regarding land, availability and development opportunities are maintained by Village staff who are at your service.
Other Village services are highlighted by impressive ISO
ratings, Lake Michigan water, well trained police and fire
departments, and exceptional utilities. A diversified
housing stock that fits all income levels, abundant parks and
recreational activities, great schools and cultural activities
emphasize the pleasant living environment existing throughout
our neighborhoods.
Annual community events such as Streamwood Summer
Celebration, Memorial Day Remembrance and a Fourth of July
Extravaganza bring the people of our community together.
I invite you to consider the Village of Streamwood.
Visit for a while, or stay for a lifetime!
