Procedure
- A completed permit application.
- A copy of the plat of survey showing the proposed
location of fence.
- Show type and height of fence.
- All contractors must be licensed with the Village.

- Site check must be approved by the inspector.
- Call Public Works at (630) 736-3850 for underground
street light cable locations.
- Call J.U.L.I.E. at (800) 892-0123 for utility line
locations.
Specifications
Please note that these specifications are general and not
comprehensive. Additional changes or suggestions may be
made by the inspectors during the site check to ensure that
the construction performed will be to code.
- Front Yard Fences: No fence shall be erected or
maintained in a front yard of any lot (see Fence
Diagram).
- Side Yard and Rear Yard Fence: No fence shall be
erected or maintained in a side yard or a rear yard in any
district to a height greater than six (6) feet (see Fence
Diagram).
- Corner Side Yard: Corner side yard and overlapping
corner side/rear yard fences may be erected, to a height
of six (6) feet, if said fencing is located a minimum of
fifteen (15) feet from the property line along the public
right-of-way. (see Fence
Diagram).
- Line of Sight Obstruction: In no event shall any
wall, fence, or other structure or planting be placed or
maintained in a location relative to a public or private
street, alley, driveway or other means of ingress or
egress such that the sight of on-coming vehicular or
pedestrian traffic is impaired for users of such means of
ingress and egress in accordance with regulations
contained in the Municipal Code.
- Fences Installed Next to Existing Fences: Fences
shall be three (3) feet from an existing fence. The
owner of the property is responsible for maintenance
between the fences.
- Construction Side In: The construction side of the
fence must face in towards the permit holder's lot.
- Screening of Dumpster Areas: All refuse dumpster
areas must be screened by a fence, wall or densely packed
hedge of at least six (6) feet in height, to obstruct the
view of such areas from the passing public and surrounding
properties, or a combination of both as required by the
Director of Community Development.
- Barbed Wire and Electrically Charged Fences: The
use of barbed wire or electrically charged fences is
prohibited on all land used for residential purposes.
The use of barbed wire or electrically charged fences may
be approved as a special use on land used for other than
residential purposes, but then only above a height of
seven (7) feet.
- Maintenance of Fences and Screening: Any fence or
landscaped screening used to satisfy the requirements of
this Article or required as a condition of approval for a
special use permit shall be continually maintained in good
repair and structurally sound for the duration of the use
involved.
- Accessories or Graffiti Prohibited: Banners, signs
or graffiti is prohibited on all fences.
