Civil Engineer

Responsibilities:  This is a responsible Civil Engineering position.  Work is directed by the Assistant Village Engineer.

Work involves responsibility for the use of surveying equipment, drafting tools, the preparation and maintenance of maps, and the inspection of public works projects.  Inspects and oversees construction of streets, water lines, sewer lines and other types of construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.  Plans, designs, and directs civil engineering projects.

Residency Requirement:  Must live within the following boundaries within 12 months of hire:

              Those portions of Cook County, DuPage County, and Kane County north of I  290 and I 88.  Those portions of Lake County and McHenry County south of Rt. 176 and east of Rt. 23.

Starting Salary Range:  $51,000 to $61, 000.  Excellent fringe benefits including pension plan and health insurance.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited degree granting college or university, as listed in the current edition of Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education published by the American Council on Education, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience with public works construction.  Ability to analyze and recommend solutions to complex engineering problems.  Thorough knowledge of construction contract administration and estimating of cost of construction work.  Strong computer skills and knowledge of engineering software.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with residents, property owners, developers, city advisory commissions and other city staff.
