Press Release
March 14, 2008
Deputy Chief Gremo
Streamwood Police Department
Streamwood Police Investigate Burglaries
to Motor Vehicles
The Streamwood Police Department is
currently investigating a series of burglaries to motor
vehicles. The
thieves are targeting global positioning systems (GPS) such as
those manufactured by Tom Tom and Garmin.
The offenders are entering unlocked
vehicles and locked vehicles by breaking a window.
The time of occurrence has been in the afternoon hours
around 2:00 p.m. carrying on into the evening hours, with the
latest burglary occurring at 10:00 p.m.
At this time there is no specific location that is
being targeted more than any other section of our Village.
It should be noted that the thieves have bypassed
taking other valuable items such as mp3 players and cellular
phones and taking only the GPS units.
We are asking that citizens use extra vigilance and
remove their GPS units from their dashboard or window and
secure their garage doors to deter the thieves from targeting
them.
