Press Release
April 14, 2008
Deputy Chief Keegan
Streamwood Police Department
Streamwood Police
to Conduct Traffic Safety Campaign - Rt. 59
The Streamwood Police Department will
be conducting a traffic safety campaign on May 9th,
2008; along the Illinois Route 59 corridor from 7:00 a.m.
through 3:00 p.m. This campaign is also being conducted in
conjunction with area police department’s who also have
jurisdiction along Illinois Route 59. The purpose of this
safety campaign is to increase the safety of citizens through
traffic enforcement and education. The focus of our campaign
is speeding, occupant protection, red light violators and
improper lane usage.
The intersection of Illinois Route 59
and Illinois Route 19 has been the number one source of
accidents occurring within our jurisdiction each of the last 6
years. We average roughly 57 accidents a year at this
intersection. In addition, our stretch of Illinois Route 59
was also the roadway in which both a motorcyclist and a
pedestrian were killed in calendar year 2007. It is our hope
that through increased enforcement and education, we will
ultimately see a reduction in motor vehicle accidents in
calendar year 2008.
The above campaign will serve to
enhance current enforcement programs already implemented along
the Streamwood Route 59 corridor.
