New Noise Control Regulation Ordinance

Release date: 7/20/2010

The Village Board recently adopted a new noise control ordinance.  Over the past few years, the Village has worked to better define, control, and regulate noises that generate the most resident and business complaints.  The recently adopted ordinance incorporates these improvements, and combines them into a comprehensive approach to control and regulate noise.

The new Noise Control Regulation ordinance gives the police department the tools to regulate noise issues, which attract the most complaints.  The most typical complaints in residential areas include loud music, late-night parties, yelling, and shouting.  Concerns in business areas include excessive amplified sounds, garbage collection, and loading and unloading.  This new ordinance sets specific hours in which loud noises will be tolerated.  In general, no construction, loud music, garbage collection, loading and unloading will be permitted between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am, on weekdays, and between 10:00 pm and 10:00 am on the weekends.

These regulations do provide some exemptions.  School and park events, certain construction efforts, and public works projects may generate noises earlier or later than the prescribed hours.  Of course, emergency repairs or vehicles are also exempt from these regulations. This ordinance will help us to protect the peace and quiet of the citizens of the Village by preventing unreasonably loud and raucous noise.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the police department.
