Streamwood Police Department Crime Alert

Release date: 1/31/2014

A ruse entry burglary occurred recently in Streamwood wherein the offender knocked on the door of an elderly couple posing as a plumber with "Bishop Plumbing." The couple let him in the home to check the plumbing due to the cold weather. The offender asked the female victim to run the water and flush the toilet and then told her not to get the water on her hands as the acid content in the water would damage her rings. The offender then told her to remove her rings and he would take them to his van to clean them. She removed her rings and gave them to the offender, who then walked outside to his van and left the area.

This is the third time our Village has experienced this type of crime in recent months. The offender is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, medium build, possibly 5'10" tall, and described as having dark skin, possibly Hispanic.
