Streamwood Police Continue to Investigate Gun Found Near Streamwood High School

The Streamwood Police Department recovered a handgun today just outside the property line of Streamwood High School in an adjacent residential subdivision. The recovery followed school officials being alerted to a classroom this afternoon concerning rumors about a gun being brought to school.

The school was put on lockdown for precautionary measures while a search was conducted using police K-9 Units from various suburban police departments. The weapon was recovered off school grounds and a Streamwood High School student is in police custody.

No injuries or incidents were reported to police stemming from the recovery of the weapon. Officers are conducting interviews and will be consulting with the Cook County States Attorney Office concerning criminal charges.

The lockdown was initiated at approximately 2:30p.m. and was lifted at approximately 3:50p.m. School normally is released at 2:55 p.m.
