Sewer

General Information
The Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system within the Village.

If you experience any type of sewer backup in your home, please call the Department at (630) 736-3850, before calling a plumber.  The Village can televise your sewer line at no cost, if you have an outside sewer cleanout, to check the condition of your line.  Residents are responsible for the repair and maintenance of their individual sewer service (from the house to the main sewer line).  Please call the Department for more information.

If it becomes necessary to replace your sewer service, a permit is required.  Permits are issued by the Community Development Department. A Building Permit application is available in the Forms and Applications page in the Reference Desk section of our website.

What is a cleanout and when is it needed?
A sewer cleanout station is a four to six inch pipe that is attached to your sewer service line and extended to the ground surface.  The cleanout station is designed to make it easier for your plumber to rod your sewer line in the future.  However, please note that installation of a cleanout will not permanently solve the problems that are causing your sewer to back up.  The cost of the installation of a sewer cleanout station and the guarantee vary.  If you decide to have a cleanout installed, we recommend obtaining more than one price quote.

If tree roots or a broken pipe causes your sewer backups, then the installation of a sewer cleanout station is not the best solution.  In this case, the best long term solution is to have the existing clay sewer pipe replaced.
