The Village of Streamwood is, once again, teaming up with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and ComEd to expand EV access in our community! This year, the Village attained Bronze-level designation. We are now working toward Silver! The EV Readiness Program is a unique initiative helping local governments prepare to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging infrastructure. Through the program, the Village of Streamwood will be receiving free technical assistance and training as we work on becoming an “EV Ready Community.” We are very excited to begin building safe and effective policies to help more of our residents enjoy the environmental and cost savings benefits of zero emission vehicles.

Applications for the fourth funding round for the Electric Vehicle Rebate Program are being accepted starting January 21, 2025 and must be postmarked on or before April 30, 2025. The application and instructions are now available on the Illinois EPA Electric Vehicle Rebate website.

Applicants must apply during the rebate cycle window and within 90 days of purchase of the vehicle. Funding for the round is limited and low-income applicants are given priority for rebates.

EV rebates are subject to the availability of funds for each cycle. The Illinois General Assembly has appropriated $14 million to Illinois EPA for the current fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2025. Actual funding amounts will be determined by the amount of money available in the Electric Vehicle Rebate Fund, not to exceed $14 million. Due to substantial interest in the program, Illinois EPA anticipates the available funds being depleted in advance of the close of the application window on April 30, 2025, and we encourage interested purchasers to submit applications as soon as possible to increase your chances of receiving a rebate. 

To be eligible for a rebate, the vehicle must be exclusively powered and refueled by electricity, plugged in to charge, and licensed to drive on public roadways.
