The Comprehensive Plan is the Village’s vision for its future. It guides the Village Board and Planning and Zoning Board when they look at and consider new developments and requests to modify various land uses. The Village’s current Plan was adopted in May, 2018.

The Plan established five key goals to realize the community's vision for the future and to strengthen our legacy as a Village with a "great sense of community." These goals include creating three distinct neighborhood centers, responding to changing housing trends, creating a legacy of connected trails and open spaces, meeting future transportation needs, and focusing on building near term projects that will realize this vision.

The Village of Streamwood is known for being pro-business and pro-development. Developers commend the Village for its streamlined approvals process. Yet, assisting business does not end with the development process. The Village conducts ongoing business retention programs and works to be a partner with local business. Working as partners, the Village seeks ways to keep businesses competitive.

The Subdivision Regulations establish a rational pattern of land uses throughout the Village in order to protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the community. It specifies the manner in which land may be developed, in order to establish the optimum use of land and other natural resources of the Village. The Village of Streamwood is dedicated to ensuring and protecting the rights of all persons in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Village does not discriminate in the provision of its services, programs, and activities, and makes reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities such as the removal of architectural, transportation and communication barriers. All contracts, which result in the delivery of services, programs and activities include a requirements that such services, programs and/or activities are delivered without discrimination on the basis of disability, consistent with the ADA and with local ordinances.

To ensure compliance, the Village Board appointed the Community Development Director to serve as the Village of Streamwood's ADA Compliance Coordinator. The Community Development Director is responsible for the coordination of the Village's efforts to ensure compliance with the Act, and to investigate any complaint against the Village alleging noncompliance with the Act.

The Village Board adopted rules, procedures and forms in order to ensure prompt resolution of any complaint against the Village for any alleged noncompliance. Zoning Variations

A variance is a special condition granted to property, when the strict application of the Zoning Code is impractical. Variations may be required for a number of land use constraints such as fences, sheds, or parking. The Village offers convenient online submittals using our Citizen Self Service portal. The Zoning Code establishes a rational pattern of land uses throughout the Village in order to protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the community. It creates separate districts with unique standards to promote these patterns in an attempt to establish the optimum use of land and other natural resources of the Village. The Zoning Map controls what types and kinds of land uses are permitted throughout the Village.
